Transfrom Salone was founded by four like minded friends with a heart for Sierra Leone.

We had all previously spent time volunteering in Sierra Leone and got together to form Transform Salone in 2014.

Transform Salone was granted charitable status in England and Wales in July 2015.

Alison Hickman
Founding Member / Trustee

Alison first visited Sierra Leone in 2006 on a 2 week mission trip, she fell in love with the country and its people and now runs the Transform Salone projects there while making occasional visits to the UK to spend time with family and raise awareness of Transform Salone’s work.

She is married to Bob and when in the UK they enjoy tinkering in the garden and cooking together.

Ronnie Fleming
Founding Member / Trustee

Ronnie runs his own executive coaching and management consultancy business and is a fellow of the chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity.

He likes nothing better than leading teams of volunteers to work on community development projects building schools, clinics and houses in developing countries. He has worked in Sierra Leone, Brazil, Moldova, Sri Lanka and the Dominican Republic.

Stephi Oates
Founding Member / Trustee

Stephi first became involved in Africa after volunteering on a building project  in Zambia. She followed this by several visits to volunteer in Sierra Leone, loving its friendly people, beautiful landscapes and its developing infrastructure.

Before becoming a trustee with Transform Salone Stephi provided educational sponsorship for seven  teenagers who have now  successfully graduated from educational and vocational training. Married with four grown up children she works in the family building and development business.

Helen Young

Helen first come to Sierra Leone in 2016, stayed and month and fell in love with the country and especially the people. She became a Trustee in 2018 and since then spends her time devising crazy fundraising schemes: climbing mountains, jumping off buildings, sea swimming in winter to name a few.

She has a passion to share God's love and grace in whatever way she can.

Carla Husband

Carla is Alison's niece. She first visited Sierra Leone in 2016 for one week and has been twice more since, staying for longer each trip! She has a heart for the children of Sierra Leone.

Carla is our volunteer social media and communications manager.

She lives in the UK with her husband, little boy and baby girl

Adele Pirrie (RIP)
Founding Member / Trustee

Sadly Adele passed away on 20th April 2021 - she is greatly missed by everyone at Transform Salone

Adele was a 70-something year old grandmother who was proud to be called Granny Granny by those who knew her. Having first gone to Sierra Leone in 2008 she fell in love with the beautiful and proud people and their country.

Adele said she felt privileged to be a part of Transform Salone and serve the people she had grown to love.
